A Quick Overview: I research late Quaternary paleoclimates with a specific focus on the last several glacials, their transitions, and the intervening interglacials. I endeavor to use multi-proxy, multi-disciplinary research methods that use historical records of climate change as a calibration for assessing past climate states. Although my present research is concentrated in lacustrine environments, I have worked in the marine realm. I suspect that my research will ultimately involve both terrestrial and marine settings as I attempt (i.e., as do many paleoclimatologists) to deconvolve the large-scale ocean-atmosphere (and solar) relationships that drive global climate change.

Interested in Getting a Master's Degree in Geology? If you're interested in paleoclimate studies and becoming a member of an exciting and growing department, please contact me at the e-mail address above (or the CSUF department in general).

New Research Opportunity:

1. National Geographic Society recently (2009) funded Dr. Brady Rhodes and me to continue our paleotsunami research in Thailand. Interested? Contact me or Dr. Rhodes (brhodes@fullerton.edu)!

2. ACS-PRF recently (Fall 2008) funded a full seismic reflection survey and long drill core research project at Lake Elsinore. This exciting project will extend our sediment history at Lake Elsinore back to 40,000 to 50,000 calendar years before present. As of right now, the oldest cores from the lake's deepest basin extend only to 11,200 cy BP. I am looking for 1 or 2 MSc students to participate in this project starting Spring or Fall 2009.
