EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate should have experience working in a group setting to accomplish project objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position involves working along side our staff in the office and in the field. Duties include assisting with such activities as soil sampling, logging soil borings, groundwater monitoring, data collection during pilot tests, remediation systems operation and maintenance, report preparation, data quality control and research activities.
SKILLS: Strong organization and time management skills are essential. Some programs prospective interns should have been exposed to or would be able to learn are Quicklog, AutoCad, Surfer, ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel and Word.
KNOWLEDGE: Applicants should have taken Physical Geology (101/101L) and Earth History (201). Applicants should also have taken or be taking concurrently, several of the following courses: Introduction to Field Techniques (380), Mineralogy and Introduction to Petrology (303A), and/or Hydrology and Surface Processes (335)
TIME COMMITMENT: Applicants can expect a minimum of 12 to 20 hours per week, but hours are flexible around school schedules which will probably determine the maximum amount of hours.
PAY RATE: The position will be paid at an hourly rate that will depend on the qualifications and abilities of the applicant, with a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded at the successful completion of the Internship.
