The Bengal Bamboo has common name as “spineless Indian Bamboo, Calcutta Cane.” Its genus is bambusal, and species is tulda. The Bengal Bamboo is usually found in Southeast Asia rainforest. It is about 40 feet and 80 feet in height. The diameter is about 3 inches at maturity. The leaves are long, narrow, and green. It grows very well in the moist environment. It physically adapts to its environment by growing tall fast so that it gets a lot of rain and sunlight. Bengal Bamboo has many usages. It can be used to reduce soil erosion. When I was in Vietnam, my grandfather used to plant such bamboo to prevent from pond’s erosion. In addition, it also provides shelter for many animals. It is also used for furniture that represents some culture, making baskets, or reinforcing concrete. In music, this type of bamboo is used to make flutes. One of my memory that I will never forget that I used to used to use such bamboo for fishing rods.
