Its common name is the same above. Its genus is tropidolaemus, and species is wagleri. Wagler's pit viper is found in the Southeast Asia where the climate is wet and humid. Wagler's pit viper has a length about 4 feet. It has the name “viper” because of the pits just behind the nostrils that can sense heat and locate warm-blooded animals. This is also the adaptation to hunt at night. Adult male has a green color with a black border and many greenish-yellow crossbars on its back. One of its important adaptations is that it can manage and change its color basing on the color of the trees such as yellow and green. Pit vipers produce babies directly without egg. Actually, eggs are open inside the mother's body, and Wagler's pit viper can produce from 5 to 50 babies. All babies are able to look after themselves as soon as they are born. The Wagler's pit viper is a carnivore. One of the predators of the viper is the King Cobra. The pit viper preys on animals such as mice, lizards, birds, rodents, and frog. It is ok for this animal because it is not in endanger. When I was in Vietnam, my grandfather did not allow me to whistle. He was afraid that the whistling sound attracts this snake because the whistle is like the sound of the birds.
